about

Remastered and slightly remixed for this EP's 3rd anniversary! I had to remove two tracks that were really just way too out of sync (a common occurrence with the older How Scandinavian material), or just too weak from the rest of the material. I haven't done much tampering in regards to the (relatively minor) sync issues though since it gives the EP its certain charm. I think the new mastering makes it more clear and easier on the ears, definitely what it deserved for its 3rd birthday. Enjoy the new improved sound of the 2010 How Scandinavian 'classic': Smiles Without Mirth. Definitely my most ambitious and unique early work.

Track Name: Common Convenience
You hid yourself
Upon simpler days
Now let the tracking
Of the mistakes have its way

Taught them how to fight
But not to resist
The single adoring thoughts
It’s knives against a kiss

Lost my trust fund
But no one stops smiling
Now the wolves have
Found their scent
Due to lack of priority

You can enjoy whoring out your time
Suggest one thing and then another
You finish nothing and say there’s tomorrow

I’m so happy we aren't good friends
I’m so tired I can’t read
And you said you’d be okay
But I know that in a few weeks
I’ll get nothing, get fucked over
And you’ll have your way
Is it too much to ask for?

It’s so different now
If I told you would say
“No, I don’t believe you, not a word you say”.
My thoughts, surely scrambled
It’s a bit forced don’t you think?
Don’t you think? Of course not.
Track Name: Jay Fantini
I bet you thought of me wrong
Contempt will have its way
My reason isn't flawed
You can settle down a familiar fact
Is the obsession gone?
Feel a distant call, a peculiar past!

No the numbers aren't ever wrong
Say what you can’t admit
It’s such a fun story to recall
A death by association
Turn the pages left to right
That’s all that is definite!

Pearson sure had his way
Over any fickle philosopher today
Now nothing’s unsure
Hand me a pencil, write down infinity
There’s no remorse on me
Solving the problem sure was easy

No the numbers aren't ever wrong
Say what you can’t admit
It’s such a fun story to recall
A death by association
Turn the pages left to right
That’s all that is definite!

All that’s definite
Now you thought you should have left but
You’re still stuck in the same place; you were there four weeks ago
Now your mind is somewhere else, and you’re not sure.
Track Name: Left Field Cult Film Theme Song
(instrumental)
Track Name: For A Living
promised myself that I would never waste my time
Track Name: Elated
By now
I could have made it by now
By now
I could have made it by now

But I went for more
But I went for more
But I went for more

But now, you thought you shouldn't
Track Name: Nancy
Left and the month went away
Some wait there and some never came
Try to find reassurance when
Every word has a second notion
I want to rearrange my doubts
To make for worn out mistakes

Still waiting for the role
Of a trusted and adored soul
What I meant is left intact
How’s it prove it’s more than fact
To you and with you I’m never sure

Steady decline with stressful days
Only a few things to make them go away
Chance meetings and un-exchanged smiles
Nothing mattered as much from then it seems
But now could this be the start of
Discovering you’re everything I want

How can I find comfort in familiar courts without familiar face?
There’s always a trail, but not enough to find you
Track Name: Old News
Three minutes with thirty seconds
It’s okay, nothing happens, it’s another place

Here’s to reliving what I can’t replace
How to return to a few hundred days

Don’t want to be like that
But it’s in the blood
None is shed for a reason without repent

I’m old news
And yesterday’s headlines
Don’t stay relevant

He said “Get over it”

Look ahead an inch and wait your turn
The ruler of the day will be your own

I never am the right hand
But I didn't want to be a hot shower and nap

Passed my own examination
But she says I’m still depressed

“Didn't get over it”
But I know I did

Am I unaccepting of all
The things you said
Or am I letting all the shit
Get to my head?

It’s careless to pretend I’m wrong
It’s careless to pretend you’re gone
