This song has been kicking around for many years and I recall a version in the archives that we played live in 2011 that was absolutely dreadful. Probably one of the first songs that I ever wrote that extensively used an alternate tuning; something I do not necessarily wish to do again.
There used to be two companion songs to this one that used the same tuning entitled "Seahorse" and "Sabrina", the latter being a sequel to the song "The Woods". Heavily inspired by Red House Painters' dark second half of their first self titled album at time. Now I'm not so sure...
lyrics
It doesn't take much to realize where you are:
a flickering screen and some bitter daydreams
But in time there won't be any more
with all of the days freshly worn
funny enough, I forgot it all
laugh, laugh, laugh, laughing like a fool
Cut yourself on the words of
on the words of the loudest mouth
I know you're so unaware of time
Diluted in paraphrases with a sack of single note smiles
poor excuse for even the palest imitation
so unsure and led by a lure
the salting season has come and gone again
wait outside the door hat in hand
competition of one-sided bets
expecting another plate of bourguignon
it's just what they want
it's just what they want
it's just what they WANT
